Position Description =
· Crane manufacturing company needs a Design Services Manager to manage personnel involved in Design Services activities to provide technical support to crane manufacturing, Engineering Services and International Services business groups
· The Design Services Manager, as a member of the Technical Group, is the primary contact for all engineering design issues relating to Crane Manufacturing, Engineering Services and International Services business areas.
· The Design Services Manager supervises all personnel with direct responsibility for design engineering and drafting.
· It is mandatory for the incumbent to be familiar with the requirements of the Quality Management System and to take an active part in the compliance and improvement of the Company’s Quality Programme. The adherence to the Company’s Quality Procedures and allied systems is required to maintain quality standards to API Q1.
· The incumbent must be fully conversant with the requirements of the Company’s Safety Policy and take an active part in the compliance and improvement of the Safety Management System, ensuring that the health and safety arrangements are being effectively applied by all subordinates.
· The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that subordinates are helped to perform their jobs effectively and have the learning opportunities through which their abilities and potential can be developed.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration
Manage personnel involved in Design Services activityResponsible for the coordination, planning, prioritization and execution of Design Services Projects in accordance with Company procedures and guidelinesAccountable for Design Services systems, records and registers, to include: Ensuring Engineering Folder / File Management, Ensuring Drawing Folder / File Management, Monitoring and Reporting of Project Time-WritingResponsible for the recruitment, training, appraisal and discipline of Design Services personnel.Responsible for maintaining suitable records of all activities under direct responsibilityMain Processes
· Responsible for the development and execution of Design Services systems and methods.
· Responsible for processing of Design Services inquiries / estimates through:
· Understanding of the methodology of inquiry processing and includes participation with and guiding team members in the following stages:
· Bid Planning
· Development of Scopes of Work
· Production of Execution Plan
· Estimating
· CTR Production
· Proposal Formatting and Collation
· Submission Review and Approval
· Responsible for progressing Design Services project elements to meet project milestones, to include:
· Development of design project activity encompassing the following disciplines: Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic and Machining.
· Projects may include for
· Compilation of crane design data packages consisting of calculations, method-statements, planning charts, drawings and implementation procedures for internal, client or Third Party Design Review.
· Preparation of FEA analysis reports for cranes and associated components
· Design review of crane upgrade and/or modification scopes of work in accordance with applicable engineering standards and legislation
· FMEA / FMECA studies of cranes and associated equipment
· Mechanical Handling / Lifting projects
· Implementation of site and/or offshore surveys and preparation of detailed survey reports
· In this instance success is measured by attainment of the Business Plan Turnover and Profit and the delivery of projects to Safety and Quality standards.
· Responsible for ensuring project elements are checked and reviewed according to QA procedures.
Communication
· In line with Company systems, the position requires the organization of activity reviews based on project plans and subsequent prioritization and the conducting of weekly review meetings.
· Conduct internal meetings to progress ongoing, urgent or overdue issues.
· Liaison with VP, Projects & Technology and Team Leaders to ensure projects are progressing satisfactorily and milestones are met.
· Liaison with clients, sub-contractors, suppliers and company staff as required
· Responsible for the development and delivery of appropriate project reportage to reflect project progress and the strategic development of the Design Services team.
· Contribute to the sales effort through direct client contact and meetings, with focus on target customers as defined within the Technical Group Business Plan.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
· Engineering Degree, Qualified in Structural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering
· Professional Engineer (PE) Certified
· Minimum of five years experience in structural, civil or mechanical design projects in offshore industry (or similar)
· Solid background in engineering analysis and design methods
· Solid background in computational methods (finite element analysis)
· Knowledge of relevant engineering standards (API, AISC, ASTM, AWS, SAE)
· Strong leadership skills
· Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
· Good computed skills
· Ability to perform tasks independently, with minimum supervision, as well as within a team environment
· Ability to multi-task and effectively manage work across multiple projects.
